Wheat Ridge Acupuncture - Harm Reduction - Denver & Boulder
Harm reduction aims at reducing negative consequences of potentially destructive habits or addictions without necessarily insisting on abstinence or immediate change.
Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies that aims to reduce negative consequences of potentially destructive habits or addictions without necessarily insisting on abstinence or immediate radical change. The harm reduction movement has a history within illegal drug users but many of the principles can also apply to psychiatric drugs, behavioral addictions, extreme mental/emotional states, diet and exercise habits.
While I like to work with people to reduce the harm of -- or, at times, eliminate -- addiction, my intention as a practitioner is to avoid gatekeeping, guilt, and/or shame. As a practitioner, I understand that licit and illicit drug use, toxic foods, and environmental toxins are part of our world and I feel my work is to minimize their harmful effects rather than simply ignore or condemn them.
